Last week I was notified that my driver's licence would need to be renewed soon. I don't drive any more, but occasionally I need to flash a picture ID. So it meant a trip to the Autopac agent at Grant Park Mall. Another one of those mundane tasks that take time away from my favorite pass-times, namely loafing and procrastinating. But it had to be done, so I bundled up against the frigid weather, and headed out.
I made good bus connections on the way to the mall. I didn't have to stand in the cold at the bus stop for very long. In fact, I thought the weatherman got it wrong. It didn't seem as cold as it was supposed to be. But I changed my mind as I hiked across the mall parking lot from the bus stop. The wind was brisk. I made it inside just short of frostbite.
My business at Autopac was concluded in less than five minutes, and once again I tested myself against the elements, heading across the parking lot to the bus stop. I arrived at the stop just in time to see my bus pulling away. I had to wait 20 minutes for the next bus. I completed my task, and returned to the Cave (my apt.)in less than two hours.
Shortly after I got back Livi dropped by. I said it was a good thing she hadn't come earlier, because she would have missed me. Then I summarized my morning excursion. And how, in spite of the freezing weather, and missing the bus, I completed the task in less than two hours.
Livi gazed out the window, and asked, "Why didn't you just go the Autopac agent across the street?"
